Thus Kevin was born
This is something that has been pending since God knows when. Ok, not really. Pending since 13th September, I should say. So, here we go...
I wasn't having any signs of labour nearing, when suddenly on 11th September at around 9:30 PM, 13 days before due, I felt that fluid was leaking. I told my mother and she asked me to keep checking whether contractions were starting. In the mean time we had dinner. I found that contractions had started and informed my parents. We got ready and left for the hospital.
The duty doctor examined me and I was admitted. I was injected antibiotics since fluid was leaking and given some tablets to trigger pain. I was asked not to walk too much and spend most of the time in bed. My fluid kept leaking till noon of 12th September. My OB found that the membrane had closed by itself and that I wouldn't leak further. She said that we can wait for the pain to start till next morning. If nothing happened by then, pain could be induced.
Painful contractions started at around 4 o'clock in the afternoon. I stayed in my room till 1 o'clock in the night and was then taken to the labour room. My contractions were highly irregular, so I was asked to stay in the labour room. At 3:30 AM the duty doctor came and examined me. I was given sedation twice in between, though I didn't ask for it. I guess it's routine. But it helped me to relax.
In the morning I had some coffee and changed to the hospital gown that was given. From then on everything happened very fast. Or it felt like that. I was shifted to the table and Kevin was born at 11:58 AM on the 13th of September 2007.
As Noodlehead said, labour pain is something that has always been exaggerated. It is not as bad as it is being told. It only depends upon the attitude of the mom-to-be.
So, all you first time mom-to-be's, don't be scared. Just pray hard and think about the beautiful baby that you are going to get and everything will be fine. :)
